The Dumb Demo
WHFM
A compilation of eight tracks ranging from acoustic pop to a grunge pop sound about life, relationships and everything Im to afraid to say out loud.
WHFM is the music project of Will Hoffman, a Portland-based songwriter blending alternative rock, pop-punk, garage rock, and melodic early-2000s influence into songs built around relationships, bad timing, late nights, and the humor that tends to show up when everything is going slightly wrong.
Will grew up playing piano before moving toward guitar and songwriting. Nirvana, pop-punk, alternative rock, and films like Superbad and American Pie all became part of the creative DNA behind WHFM, shaping a style that leans into both sincerity and chaos without taking itself too seriously.
At 18, Will moved to West Virginia for college and spent seven years there. Long before WHFM became a serious project, music was something he did because he loved it. He would occasionally get asked to play at parties, and some of his earliest recordings came from going to friends’ houses with an acoustic guitar and a microphone because that was the only “studio” he could get into.
Will has also worked in acting, voice acting, and stand-up comedy, experiences that helped shape the conversational, visual, and sometimes self-deprecating style of his songwriting.
Every WHFM song starts acoustically. Will builds the chords, melody, and structure on acoustic guitar first, then expands the song with electric guitars, MIDI instruments, and additional production. ADHD often brings a certain level of controlled chaos to that process, sending ideas in unexpected directions before they settle into their final shape.
The result is music that moves between polished hooks and rougher guitar textures while keeping the songwriting at the center. WHFM is less about fitting neatly into one genre and more about making songs that feel immediate, melodic, imperfect, and familiar.
WHFM will be debuting two singles on all streaming platforms followed by an EP with the help of UK based management company End Of The Trail Creative. “Black and Blue” will release towards the end of October and "Alex will drop a couple weeks after.
